What is PowerUp Learning?

Today more and more kids are learning virtually from home or within a school pod. The computer has become the teacher at the front of the room. It’s no wonder that teachers, parents, and kids complain that learning is boring, the methods ineffective, and the results dismal.

Let's change that!

At PowerUp Learning, we can help you design learning that inspires, engages, and motivates - learning that builds essential abilities underscored by educational standards.

We will show you how to:

  • Build a curriculum
  • Unpack the standards
  • Use interest and inquiry to structure your curriculum
  • Manage project-based learning
  • Bring fun back into learning
  • Gauge student success

Let's build together for a great learning experience!

Beverly Vaillancourt, M.Ed

Founder of PowerUp Learning

Over the years I have the privilege of teaching children of all ages and working with teachers in several states, as well as in India. I began my career in education as a special education teacher. It gave me a deep understanding of the unique talents of all children. Along the way, I started and ran a program for high school students who had history of truancy to earn and receive their high school diploma. Close to 100% of those students finished high school. They provided great insight into why they had avoided the schoolhouse door.

I’ve designed courses, written activities for students and teachers for major textbook publishers, designed professional development, aligned courses with state standards, wrote items for state standardized tests, and most importantly, spent a lot of time in classrooms, public, private, and as a homeschooling mom.

In all of those experiences, one thing was, and remains, paramount --

Praise and recognition of talents, skills, and effort are key to effective instruction and absolutes for effective learning, Learning spaces must be safe spaces to fail, to explore, to take risks. This is as true for students as it is for teachers and homeschooling parents.

I’ve started PowerUp Learning, with that in mind.

“If we succeed in giving the love of learning, the learning itself is sure to follow.”

John Lubbock,

“We had fun in school today?

“What did you do?

“We worked as a team to build a pyramid that didn’t fall down. Do you know that pyramids were built by the Egyptians in 2550 BC? We learned a lot about where they are found and why they were built. The Egyptians needed to know a lot about geometry. We had to think about how to use rectangles to make a four-sided triangle. That was tricky and took some teamwork. I added a lot to my learning journal today, including a drawing of what we made. Here are my new questions:

What was found in the pyramids?

How long did they take to build?

How high is the tallest pyramid?

Where did they find the materials to build the pyramids?

We are going to have time to explore our questions tomorrow and share our answers."
